Fourth Grade "RAP SHOP" Explorers at Schillling School learned about song writing with me. They were inspired by my adoption of my daughter, and felt moved in their hearts about the aloneness of orphans. They wanted to create a scary and exciting story of finding family. The end of the recording features some of the parents of our rappers. I am really proud of the senstivity and creativity of these students!
Orphan Alone
By Schilling Explorers 2009 & Kathleen Gibson

There once was an orphan who wanted a family.
He sat and cried on the shore of the sea.
The waves rushed around him, he went in to swim.
But suddenly a shark came after him.

A shiver of sharks rushed to the child.
He tried to escape, the sharks went wild.
The sky darkened up, it started to rain.
He buried his fear, he was in such pain.

A flash of lightening, he saw a boat.
The man and his wife threw him a float.
As they pulled him aboard, the storm at an end,
He found his family, his heart would mend.
No longer an orphan, never again.
